Laser Safety Training

Laser Safety Training from LasermetSee also:
Medical Laser Safety Training Course
Laser Safety Training Course for Laser Clinic Staff

All persons using Class 1M, Class 2M, Class 3R, Class 3B and Class 4 lasers should receive laser safety training. For Class 1M, 2M and 3R lasers this training may be quite concise.  In addition all organisations using Class 3B, Class 4 or Invisible Class 3R lasers must have a Laser Safety Officer who should have received appropriate training.

We define three levels of training:

  • 1 - 2 hours Laser hazard awareness training
  • 4 - 8 hours Standard laser safety training
  • 8 - 16 hours Intensive laser safety training

Laser hazard awareness training

Laser safety training lasting more than two hours is almost always quite technical in nature.  For people who are not technically minded or who do not need such technical knowledge we recommend laser hazard awareness training (eg laser machine operatives, laser product assembly line workers, staff not using lasers but who are in proximity to lasers).  For theatre nurses, ODP’s, surgeons and laser clinic staff we recommend our Medical Laser Safety Training Course.

Standard laser safety training

Where training is required, at least one person in the organisation should have this level of training, including the LSO (where applicable).  This level of training is also appropriate to research staff, design engineers and others with technical knowledge.

Intensive laser safety training

This may be appropriate, at the discretion of the employer, where a more in depth knowledge would be beneficial to the company.
